Chocolate Always Certifications

At Chocolate Always, we take organic certification as seriously as our customers. We care about every ingredient in our bars. USDA-Certified Organic accreditation means that we meet and adhere to the strictest requirements—both for healthy food and environmental impact.

Control Union—a leading international inspection and certification organization—provides oversight and verification. In turn, government regulators worldwide, including the US Department of Agriculture, accredit Control Union. So our customers are assured that Chocolate Always meets the highest standards for quality and organic purity.

As part of our commitment to the ingredients we use and the environment in which the cacao beans are grown, every Chocolate Always Organic bar is non-GMO. No pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used in growing or managing the cacao crop.

Because we work from bean to bar near the source, we can trace the origin of all our organic ingredients—from the finest cacao beans to the purest sugar. We use criollo—the rarest and oldest variety of cacao beans. They are highly prized for their quality and robust flavor and are probably closest to the original cacao. Today they comprise only about 3 percent of total cacao production.

Similarly, because every Chocolate Always bar is crafted near the source and under our supervision, we know the quality of every ingredient. We also can protect against any form of contamination. We use no food additives, preservatives or industrial solvents in our process. And in adherence with organic strictures, we never irradiate our ingredients or products.

We work in partnership with local farmers that supply the ingredients for Chocolate Always bars. We observe and support firsthand the sustainable growing practices that ensure both the continued good health of the fragile criollo beans, their delicate ecosystem in the foothills of the Andes and the environment in general. We support only bio-diverse farming techniques in line with global initiatives to offset climate concerns and that serve to maintain critical forests and plant life as well as continue to provide habitat for migratory birds and other animal species.
